INSIDE MESSAGE
I remember how us kids would search
What seemed like every part of the house,
Trying to sneak a peak at our gifts.
But, no matter how hard we tried,
We never found them.
So our smart plan was to stay up late
On Christmas Eve and tree-watch.
We just knew we would catch Dad
Slipping gifts under it.
That never worked!
To this day, we wonder how Dad
Could out-wait us.
Then, finally, it was Christmas Day ...
Mmm…
Smells of honey ham with cloves,
Candles burning, and sweet potato pies.
The beauty of Mom in her
Special holiday dress,
And china that made its guest appearance
Only once a year.
And, of course, the prettiest tree ever
With tons of gift boxes stuffed underneath.
But you know what
My greatest memory of all is?
Enjoying the day with the both of you.
You and Dad made Christmas for our family, and you still do.
I love you
